Stratum:   Fill, light brownish brown very soft 10-20% fine-coarse pebbles 2% cobblestones, poorly sorted silty sand
Notes:   This basket is for the removal of the remaining soft light brown fill layer in the SE corner of the trench; this includes the area where we came upon the first of hard earth below the fill. The rest of the trench as it stands now is comprised of blondish brown hard clay in the W (with a good amount of tile and stones, many of which are coarse/cobblestone, and a small amount of charcoal), the soft reddish earth in the NE corner, earth to the immediate S of the reddish, that is similar (though not clearly the same) to the blondish brown earth (the W side of the trench seems to have a higher concentration of stone/tile inclusions), and finally the S corner which is the new B25. There is also a softer brown patch (possible pit) around the architectural block. In the area where we first saw a clay layer, an extremely hard patch has been isolated in the SE. A layer of tiles has appeared in the NE area of the basket which seems to rest on a clayey layer and is covered by soft light brown soil. This basket will close and another B26 will open to define the area of tile. Also in the SE corner, extending W from the extremely hard clay at a near right angle are several tiles that form a rough line. These tiles are more or less aligned with those found at the bottom of B15 (S of rock/architectural block).
