Stratum:   Fill. Light yellowish brown; weakly cemented coarse grained, 40-50% inclusions; fine to large pebbles, very poorly sorted; clayey sand.
Notes:   Basket 10 was defined as everywhere in the trench excluding the area of Basket 9. Basket 10 rests underneath baskets 5 and 7. Two passes were taken in this basket. The first pass occurred only in the western half of the basket which was directly underneath B 5 at a higher elevation than the eastern area. A second pass removed soil in the western section and then moved to the east. The soil in both passes was the same and is clearly fill with inclusions of pottery, roof tiles and cobble sized stones. In the western section of the basket, we have reached the elevation where we expect the continuation of wall 285. However at this point the continuation of this wall has nto been defined. A bronze coin was found at E 414.36, N 975.65, elevation 91.17. At the bottom of the basket less inclusions were observed, however this does not seem to be an actual stratum change. Therefore the basket was closed at an arbitrary level which is the eleveation that we expected to reveal the cotinuation of wall 285. At the southeastern basket edge a thin rock section running north-south was revealed. This block appears cut on its eastern edge and this is probably the result of cutting through the rock during the construction of the Roman tile lined pool. A small hump of soil was left next to the L-shaped block; the workmen thought that this was partially cemented to the block. This soil, however, was removed in Basket 13 and it was determined that this soil was the same as that in Basket 10 and 13.
