Stratum:   60%- small boulders, cobbles, fine and medium pebbles, mudbrick, ceramic sherds
Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the SW. The soil color is dark reddish brown. The soil compaction is compact. The soil is poorly sorted. It is silty sand.
Notes:   This context is the removal of structure 1047, which is on top of two curvilinear walls 1068 and 1069 in the western part of the excavation area, just east of the west scarp.
We are hoping to understand the relationship between structure 1047 and these walls underneath it. Also, we are hoping to understand whether this is indeed a structure, or just a dumped architectural feature.
We started by cleaning the top of the structure in order to tget a better understanding of its shape and composition. We first removed a few cobbles and tile fragments in order to reveal the large boulders, tile, and mudbrick underneath it.The soil is very mixed, with some reddish brown, greenish yellow, and dark yellowish brown shades. The reddish brown colored soil is in fact the decomposed mudbrick; hence, the remains of the structure consisted of a layer of boulders at the bottom and then a mix of mudbrick and tile above it.
After having excvavated the structure, it became clear that it rested on top of a soil layer and hence it is not related to the curvilinear layers underneath it. James Herbst thus thinks that the structure was a part of a dump, as opposed to an actual wall built on top of the structure. The soil underneath it is dark reddish brown, but the reddish hue is much lighter than the color of decomposed mudbrick in this layer. After the removalof this structure we closed the context and we will proceed with the examination of the curvilinear wall underneath it.
