Notes: | Structure 1138 appears to be the latest structure in our northern area. Likely a poured-plaster foundation for a wall whose superstructure is no longer visible, 1138 consists primarily of plaster sitting on top of a single course of stones--some of which have been roughly worked. These stones were likely reused from an earlier context; the NW corner stone, e.g., is roughly squared at .29L x .23W x .07D. The last context cut for the construction of 1138 was 1193, "leveling fill W of wall 1138"; it appears as though the surface east of the stone feature 1196 is the first level running below 1138. We are dating this structure as possibly Byzantine, as its construction appears to have cut through our Early Byzantine pit, 1163, and therefore must post-date it based on stratigraphic relationships. | |
