Notes:   Excavation of 1203, a compact earth floor cut by 1178 and 1166, and laid up against earlier stone feature 1196 and cooking pot 1217, yielded striking finds associated with a white, unfired clay feature embedded on the northeastern edge. At least two pins of different metals were found, as was a finger ring, clustered on the western side of the white clay feature at E 275.81, N 1013.37, H 85.54.
Floor 1203 laid up against 1216 and 1217, a small incision holding a cooking pot from the 2nd half of the 4th c. BCE. This cooking pot, with handle and rim preserved to sufficiently allow a full profile reconstruction, was inserted upside-down into floor 1215, and was later respected by 1203. (I.e., 1203 was laid up against the cooking pot).
Taken together with the nearby stone feature 1196, cooking pot 1217/cut 1216 and the white clay feature containing prestige objects, it is likely that floor 1203 played host to ritualized activity and served as a charged interior space. This is confirmed and indeed intensified when considering that tile feature and Classical perirhanterion from 1181 immediately overlaid these features at a later period in time. This interior space seems to have maintained its ritual character.
The cookpot provides a tpq for the date of this deposit to the 2/2 of the 4th century B.C.E.
NB: prestige metal objects (see inventoried objects for this context) all much earlier in date than this floor. Likely retained as heirlooms from centuries earlier. All comparanda coming from prominent Archaic sanctuaries: C.f.
