Description:   The soil color is light brownish yellow. The soil compaction is weakly cemented. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   We excavated this context in hopes of exposing more of the rock structure south of well 742, which was exposed under tile feature 1220. This rocky deposit seems to run under this very compact layer, which is in line with wall 366 and seems to run under wall 366 to the east. We interpreted this layer, which is at the bottom of cut 647 (foundation or robbing of the wall), as a bedding surface for the wall itself.
Thanasis kept cleaning and removed additional soil, tiles, and stones from beyond the line of the wall to the north. Accordingly we decided to call this a cleaning context, since the boundaries of this context do not seem to represent a particular discrete ancient deposit, but rather our attempt to clean the area and articulate the relationships among all the structures.
This cleaning exposed the top of another wall (?) which runs directly alongside wall 1222 up to well 742, but does not continue north of 742. We can make no sense of this area at present and hope that further exposure of the tops and faces of this agglomeration of structures will shed light on the relationship among them.
The Pink Team moved west of wall 1222. We continued to work east of the wall.
