Stratum:   tile, a few roughly hewn stones 0.15x0.07m
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark reddish black. The soil compaction is compact. The soil is poorly sorted. It is silty sand.
Notes:   This is a narrow strip of soil running along the north face of the area we have been excavating with the large dump fill 1227, in the line of wall 1087 but to the east, in the low 'cut' which has never been assigned a proper cut number. We are removing it now since we have reached its elevation, and it appears to be laid against the soil to the south, possibly as fill in a cut.
We decided to call this a cleaning because the soil had no identifying characteristics as a distinct deposit, but at the bottom we were able to see some flat laying tiles and archetectural features, somewhat like we excavated immediately to the west as contexts 1177 and 1202.
