Title:   Clay layer over apse stones and foundation
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1100
Context:   216
Page:   0
Date:   2007/06/06
Stratum:   Inclusions: 10% small pebbles, very few cobbles
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. Bottom slope of the context is level. The soil color is light reddish brown. The soil compaction is hard. The soil is well sorted. It is silty clay.
Notes:   B 216 is removing a thin layer of clay that sits north of and above the stones of the apse. It is a hard, compact layer. We are doing this to better expose the foundation and stones of this apse that we saw while digging B 204.
We hope that the clay sits directly above the stones so it will be clear and easy to see their relationships.
The soil to the east is darker and so we are stopping this basket before heading further in that direction.
This basket has exposed two cuts, one for the apse stones and the other for a wall (?) that runs E-W to the north of the apse.
