Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the E. Bottom slope of the context is slight down to the EThe soil color is dark reddish brown. The soil compaction is loose. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   B 223 is the removal of a reddish patch of soil that runs around the south edge of the pit (cut= B 193) and up ot the second pit south of it. I believe that this soil is similar to the material we removed in B 188. We are doing this in order to better see the grey, ashy soil that should be below it.
We are finding the black soil below this redder layer that we are digging. This is good since we believe this black/grey layer extends over quite a large area of the excavation field.
The brown silty soil extends north and around the pit so we are continuing to move that way until this layer ends.
We have removed as much of this layer as we can. We cannot excavate the clay patch to the north of this basket because it runs under a more pebbly clay patch that run under the large clay lumpy area in the NE corner of the excavation field. Thus we will move south to expose more of the black soil. The clay patch in the NE corner will be left intact until next excavation season.
