Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark greyish brown. The soil compaction is loose. The soil is poorly sorted. It is silty sand.
Notes:   Context 462 lies in between the pebbled surface that we uncovered with the removal of 460 to the W and 461 to the E. They are bordered on the N by C272. This context lies on the same line as the drain (426) that runs N-S. We believe that it is part of the top fill of the drain. It seems that the drain and its construction cut the floor. Our goal at this point is to remove this top part of the fill on the N part of the drain and try and expose better, if possible, the N part of the drain.
The removal of this context did not reveal more stones that would be the continuation of the drain to the N, on the line of the stones that are already in situ. However, 2 stones that might have belonged to the walls of the drain have been found in the drain and right next to the cut of the floor revealed with the removal of context 461.
13/4/09: This morning we decided to excavate a bit more on the W side of the drain and investigate that cut of the floor on the W, particularly how the drain continues there. Initially we thought that we might have had the foundation trench of the drain but at the end of Friday we realized that this was not the case. The removal of the soil showed that the stones of the drain continue along the side of the floor. Now that the excavation of this context is complete, it is clear that the cuts on the W and E of the drain which were revealed with the removal of contexts 460 and 461 respectively were cut for the construction of the drain.
