Stratum:   Tile. Pebbles, fine to cobble, all shapes. 20%
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark reddish brown. The soil compaction is very soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   We are removing a lens of fill from under pebbly floor context 5566, along the south face of the Wall 5563. By doin so, we hope to find a putative foundation trench mathcing that on the Wall's north face (Dep 5573 and Cut 5574). If we can find it, we will better understand whether the cut in the north side is a foundation trench. We expose more of a stone already protruding to the surface from directly south of the wall. South of that we expose a large tile fragment. However, we do not yet have any clear articulation for a foundation trench. But the soil we have exposed is consistent with that which we have removed. We conduct a second pass. We expose a pebbly surface and east of it softer fill. No foundation trench.
