Stratum:   Sandy silt with 70% inclusions (rounded and sub-rounded fine through coarse pebbles, tabular and platy cobbles, ceramics, tile)
Description:   The soil color is light brownish grey. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   We are excavating a lense of soil revealed by the removal of threshhold 5919 and walls 10076 and 10077. After removing two deposits that seemed to be leveling fill for thses structures (6050 and 6051) we have come to a series of paked earth floors. In excavating the floor, we realized that it is cut not only by the pier foundation cut to the W (6065), but also by the soil lense to the W. To clarify, both the lense and the pier cut the floor, and the pier cuts the lense. Thus, the pier is the latest feature, the lense is the next latest, and the floor the earliest. We should have excavated the lense before the floor, so that will be worked on next. Removal of floor 6080 revealed a variety of lower floors, including one made of pebbles. The boundaries of the floors are not entirely clear, but excavation of individual patches can easily clarify the situation.
