Description:   The context shape in plan is oval. The top break of the cut is sharp. The sides of the cut are vertical. The break at the base of the cut is n/a. The base of the cut is n/a. Truncation: None.
Notes:   Cut 6116 is cut for deposit 6115, which possibly represents slumped fill in a Byzantine-style pithos in room NW of courtyard of Byzantine house. Located in pit 5644 (& cut 5717). This fill excavated at this point in attempt to get room down to Byzantine levels.
Cut 6166 is oval in shape and likely represents the shape of the pithos. It has sharp breaks at top and vertical sides. Dating this context and fill will hopefully provide terminus post quem for filling of this feature. No structure number yet associated with this feature. Decision made not to excavate it down to completion of context. No evidence of structure of tile-built pithos apparent at this point. Break of slope at base and shape of base unknown because context not yet fully excavated.
Possible N-S jog of wall 10111 discovered at NW end of cut. Cut 6166 may have been responsible for robbing out of wall.
Cut 6116 is equal to cut 5717 for pit 5664. Bottom of pit not reached during excavation in 2008. Cut therefore continues and this continuation treated as new (but equivalent) context. In western part of cut, slice through an apparent Roman amphora revealed. Possibly this may represent a cut through a (child) burial. However, may just be a buried amphora. GDSR suggested it could be 11th century.
