Stratum:   ceramics, bone, some broken tiles, lime mortar
Description:   The soil color is dark yellowish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is moderately sorted.
Notes:   Context 6185 is believed to be a continuation of 6182 below anf 6179 to the east. This context was treated separately because it corresponded to the bottom of pit (defined by cut 5723) where a large glazed sherd is embedded. The fill in this context seems to be the same as 6182 being soft yellowish-brown clayey silt with some lime mortar inclusions.
A martyr has been left around pit (XXXXX) which will be removed when the fill beneath these fills is excavated.
Excavation of this context was interrupted on account of the appearance of a cut for pit (XXXX) originally thought to have been the result of slumped cracking from the 1960s excavation, a formation process explained by GS. But a difference in the soil was noticed inside the line of of the cut on the west side, whereas in the east we seem to have the same floor surface on both sides of the 'cut'.
The western cut (the one true cut) was given context number 6188 and the deposit inside 6189. After we resumed excavation of this context, there appeared along the western flank a stepped pile of tiles; their extent now is not clear. It lies within a small irregularly-shaped area of soft earth running n-s. This soft patch appears to be cut into the floor, and it terminates ca. 30cm from the south wall leaving a small square of the floor in the NW corner, connected to te rest of the floor by a thin strip. This fill, along with 6192 and the martyr around pit (XXXXX) must be excavated before the floor surface.
