Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the N. The soil color is dark yellowish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is well sorted. It is clayey silt.
Notes:   Context 6793 is a surface covering most of the northern half of the room west of the courtyard of the Byzantine house. It was mostly revealed during the removal of context 6785 with the final part revealed by the removal of context 6792. Context 6793 continues north beneath wall 5725 and west beneath wall 5724. It is truncated to the east by cut 6762 for robbing trench 6761.
Context 6793 appears to be a surface which may have been purposefully laid down. It is of relatively homogenous thickness and the inclusions are well sorted and comprise a small percentage of the soil. Context 6793 abuts the northern face of structure 6738 which appears to be the northern sidewalk of a large E-W Roman road. Part of the context beneath 6793 comprises a linear series of stones perhaps connected to the structure robbed out by trench 6761. Two boulders resting on the surface of 6793 may have come from the wall and topple over in an event related to the mud-brick fill with painted plaster (context 6784) above. The soil is dark yellowish brown clayey silt with less than 5% inclusions (mainly pottery and stones). The removal of context 6793 came down on a context of mixed fill (now labeled 6800) which includes patches of white marl clay and red mud brick. We also came down on a meandering cut against structure 6738. The cut is now context 6796 with fill 6795.
