Stratum: | Pebbles, small fragments tile, glass, pottery, bone, iron
Description: | Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is light reddish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is moderately sorted. It is silty clay.
Notes: | This is further digging in the triangle described in 896 - along N scarp, left above surrounding contexts. Soil is about the same as 896, except that 899 does not have the concentration of tile that 896 did. Contexts could probably be combined, and/or combined with 836. RM did some cleaning of scarp, so hopefully no contamination present from slumping. Context left open at end of day. 11 June 2012: Coin found (E268.34 N1013.92 H86.40). #130. 5 shards of glass is same general location. On completion of the pass begun on 8 June 2012 the material was uniform without much tile. Beginning with the next pass, tiles are being noticed. At this point Panos has informed us that the earth immediately S of the N scarp is soft, reddish, and mixed with tiles. The earth to the S of this, while still in the triangle, is a muddy, white marl. We are therefore switching to excavate the softer red layer with tiles.
