Stratum:   pottery, bone, tiles, marble, bronze, cement, plaster, small boulders, shell; 20% inclusions
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark brownish red. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is silty clay.
Notes:   This is the soft earth encountered while digging the fill S of 941 (=context 951). Recovered bronze item from sieve in 2 pieces. A marble fragment, possibly floor or revetment, discovered. Also the rim of a pithos. A large quantity of broken tiles is being uncovered. Two more marble fragments. One fragment has what looks like cement on its bottom surface. Plaster and cement have been noticed. We are beginning our 3rd pass in 956. Also a lot of marble slabs of different sizes/thicknesses recovered. We are beginning our 4th pass. Guy thinks this is either a robbing trench or fill after change in construction plan. Small boulders are coming up at this level. The soil clumps thickly around the boulders. There continues to be a large amount of tile - 40% tile/10% cobbles. But the tiles are clearly fill and not any kind of destruction. A large shell has been recovered. Another small piece of bronze. Context left open at end of day.
19 June 2012: E extent slightly undercuts wall 616 so E extent is appoximate.
