Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark brownish brown. The soil compaction is loose. The soil is poorly sorted. It is silty sand.
Notes:   This context is an incredibly dark layer of black ash and pieces of wood and carbon lying within a bedrock cut exposed by context 144. It was likely deposited just after the cuts were made for the original S. Stoa wall foundations. It was truncated on the north side by wall 44 and the square block at the intersection of walls 38 and 44. It lay below and was disturbed by drain 107 and therefore lay over the foundation trench on the west side of wall 38 and the north end. It reveals two possible postholes and a section of a foundation trench related to the square block on its SW corner. We will close the context once bedrock is revealed at the bottom but will leave the postholes for a future context.
