Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark reddish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is poorly sorted. It is silty clay.
Notes:   This large shallow pit was truncated by the RT/FT of wall 38 to the east. It's position, however, suggests that it may have originally been part of an earlier and much larger pit that continued right up to the west side of well VI/39 that was interrupted by the construction of the building. The soil is very consistent and is the same dark reddish brown with limestone inclusions that dominates the lowest levels in the north half of Room C (i.e., front rooms of shops VI and VII). It was recognized during excavation that this soil ran under a yellowish soil to the west, the context was stopped and the yellow soil removed as context 269, this context is continued with 271.
