Context:   309
Date:   2016/04/07
Lot:   Lot 2016-022
Stratum:   many large rocks, clustered especially beside the walls
Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the SE. The soil color is dark brownish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is very poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   After scraping down the portion of 309 N of bothros 307 on 4/7, we began the morning of 4/8 by moving around to the south of the bothros. We are still unsure of the extent of 309: it may cover half the trench, or it may only go around bothros 307. The soil in the east of 309 looks slightly greyer, but that may be because it has less moisture.
While excavating the south western portion of 309, Thanassis decided that it was actually part of the foundation trench for the south wall of the trench. It is unclear whether the layer of soil represented by the northern portion of 309 actually extended as far south as the wall, because Thannasis reached the wall before realizing that he had begun digging the foundation trench. The soil of 309 is very similar to that in the southern foundation trench, but the extent of 309 in the north makes it very unlikely that all of 309 was the foundation trench. The plan represents everything that was dug, including the foundation trench.
