Title:   Rocky Layer of Soil in East Half of Trench
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1110
Context:   370
Date:   2016/04/13
Lot:   Lot 2016-030
Stratum:   Lots of small to medium-sized rocks, modern roots (possible bioturbation)
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark brownish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is moderately sorted. It is clayey silt.
Notes:   This rocky layer is, we strongly suspect, the same as 365, but we excavated it as a separate context because we had to paus excavation of 365 to remove the layer of soil above the portion of it that continued to the east (which then became this context). The northern portion of the area exposed by excavation of 368 is a redder layer of soil that may rest on redeposited bedrock and, acording to Costas, runs under 370 (This redder alyer become 381 when exacated).
As we finishing ocntext 370, Sarah suggested that we use a skin baulk between the robbing trench at the southern edge of our trench to prevent contamination. We opted not to do so, however, as we had already been careful to scrape down the entire trench (353) at the beginning of excavation and have not been encountering modern material as intrusions in contexts to the south.
