Stratum:   10% pebbles and pottery.
Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the N. The soil color is dark brownish grey. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is clayey silt.
Notes:   We are excavting this lens of dark silty dirt to explore the possibility that it is part of a recent robbing trench that was dug in an earlier excavation. The soil is dry and soft with ceramic inclusions. We do not know the extent of the excation at the outset, since the edge of this lens is unclear. The context is possibly associated with the soft soil excavated under wall 4 in b 60 of NB 869. The current deposit runs into the scarp at approximately the same spot and elevation as b 60. The shape of this deposit is highly irregular with no discerible shape that allows for a reasonable interpretation, and so we conclude that it is part of disturbed early modern top soil revealed after cleaning (context 4).
