Title:   Refuse pit in Unit 2, Rm. 7
Notebook:   1108
Context:   205
Date:   2014/05/06
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The context shape in plan is oval. The top break of the cut is sharp. The sides of the cut are vertical. The break at the base of the cut is gradual. The base of the cut is sloping. Truncation: n/a.
Notes:   Cut appears to be a refuse pit cut into working surface context 202 and abutting wall context 210. Filled by deposit TESE 201.
During the excavation of fill deposit 197 (which covered the extent of Room 7), several deposits came to light. Fill deposit 201 appeared to be the fill of a pit from the start - its edges were clearly delineated and it seemed to lay in a small depression in the working surface. After excavating 201, the cut (this context, 205) was clean, with sharply defined, vertical walls and a nearly flat bottom. Because the fill contained a high quantity of organic material (bone, charred remains), it was suggested that the cut was made for a refuse pit.
