Type:   Basket
Name:   Temple E, Southeast, context 285
Area:   Temple E, Southeast
Title:   Deposit in Corridor
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1108
Context:   285
Date:   2014/05/09
Stratum:   30-40% inclusions, primarily coarse, sub-rounded small rocks with few sherds, bone and glass
Description:   The soil color is light greyish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt. The context shape in plan is oval. The top break of the cut is sharp. The sides of the cut are vertical. The break at the base of the cut is gradual. The base of the cut is tapered rounded point.
Notes:   While we were excavating contexts 300 and 321, we came down on a packed surface, with flat lying sherds, a flat lying knife, and several ashy deposits that upon excavation (as contexts 325 and 328), proved to be fire pits cut into the surface.
The deposit flaked off the surface, and it was traced as far to the east as it would indicate, until we hit a harder fill underneath (more clayey). It is unclear about the formation process here, whether this was simply a dump in a series of dumps on the surface over time or not.
285 was assigned as a context number out of numerical sequence of context numbers. In order of digging deposits on 19 May 2014, it was before Context 343.
