Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is light yellowish grey. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   In context 321, we are continuing to peel back the top layer of fill covering the corridor between the north wall of the church (Wall 20) and rooms 7, 8, and 9 in Unit 2. The surface, which was swept as cleaning basket 307, has served as the main walkway between the two buildings since it was excavated in the 1990s, and as a result is extremely compact. It has been coming off as a thin crust of light yellowish sandy silt along the length of the corridor, although we changed contexts (from 313 to 300) when it was observed that the soil in 300 was darker and a bit pebblier.
We opened 321 when, as we moved from west to east, it was observed that we had reached a fill nearly identical to the one we excavated as context 313. At the moment, we are unclear about the relationship between 313 and 321 and the darker fill, 300. We suggested that 300 had been dumped on top of a continuous surface (313-321), but our pickman, Thanasis, oberserved that 300 did not overlay, but rather was adjacent to both 313 and 321.
The surface we are coming down on appears to be a Medieval working surface, as a knife and several pieces of ceramic were found lying on top (embedded into) contexts 389.
