Description:   The soil color is light greyish grey. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is very poorly sorted. It is clay.
Notes:   We open this context to explore the light gray clay on the eastern end of the baulk. The surrounding soil is redish with inclusions of small to large stones. More stones are visible in the north and south scarp leading us to believe we will come upon a surface below similar to the red surrounding soil with the stone inclusions. About 0.05-0.10m deep we find a new, more compact clay surface. The soil above scrapes away easily to reveal the new surface, which appears to be a floor. Parts of the new surface have been destroyed by roots, but otherwise the surface appears uniform throughout. However, further excavation revealed 2 patches of red clay, possible mudbrick. The surface is cut on the north and south side by the scarps, on the east by the wall that delimits our area. On the west, the surface's boundary is unclear. We expected this excavation to remove the lens of the cut 40 that was just excavated, but there appeared to be a boundary formed by stone and soil with less clay, and excavation here was halted 0.07m from the edge of the top of the pit. To the west, excavation stoppped around 108 W when the surface became very irregular because of roots and inset boulders. The context was closed, but it is possible that this interfaces continues further to the west.
