Title:   Cut for posthole 471
Notebook:   1108
Context:   489
Date:   2014/06/10
Description:   The context shape in plan is circular. The top break of the cut is sharp. The sides of the cut are vertical. The break at the base of the cut is sharp. The base of the cut is flat.
Notes:   This is the cut for posthole deposit 471. This larger posthole (larger relative to the series of smaller posthole deposits 474-478 exposed in context 483) appears to fall in line with pairs of posthole contexts (333, 341; 365, 360) excavated in 2014 Session II by Maggie Burr and Dylan Rogers. These postholes do appear to be large enough to bear weight (e.g. of a roof or scaffolding of some sort) above the S portion of this corridor.
This larger posthole is cut close to the church nave whose wall (wall context 20) forms the south boundary of the corridor, with only the burial of an adult female (grave 2014 09) intervening between the posthole and the wall. Perhaps the posthole functioned in some way to separate this burial from the rest of the corridor.
