Stratum: | 30% small-medium subangular pebbles, ceramic sherds, very reddish clay lumps, glass, lapis lacedaemonius tessera
Description: | Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark reddish brown. The soil compaction is clay. The soil is moderately sorted. It is clay.
Notes: | This is the top fill of the large pit at the center of Room 2 (Unit 2), whose outline was securely revealed in the removal of deposit 550. This fill includes large lumps of reddish clay, redder than the rest of the fill. A partial cooking pot was found at E 116.73, N 1064.17, H 84.21. We switched contexts when we hit the second lens which is marked by a dramatic increase in the number of inclusions and the color of the soil shifted to a more blackish (vs. reddish) hue. This fill did not have a large number of inclusions, but it overlays the second lens of the pit (564), which was a trash dump, so perhaps 552 was deposited in order to effectively seal the deposit and providing a firmer deposition of clay upon which to lay a floor and have a walking surface. Animal bones, 3.95 kg, saved in LOT 2014-47.
