Material bonding: dry packed mud. Features: Robbing pit interrupts wall on E. side.
Notes:   The upper courses of wall 729 are not preserved and it is important to note that Wall 156 continues directly to its West along the same alignemnt as Wall 729, but with a different construction technique. At the junction of Wall 729 and 156 are three very large blocks (one is included as part of Wall 156) that may belong to an earlier wall or form a very strong corner support for a freestanding building. Without excavation, the relationship of these blocks to Walls 729 and 156 is not certain. Context 663/664 may be part of a robbing trench for Wall 729, which may indicate a Late 13th-early 14th century date for the robbing activity and perhaps for the wall itself.
Note: Excavation of Pit 733 revealed that the bottom of Wall 729 rests on the bottom of the pit and that the wall may be contemporary to the cut of the pit, which is late 13th century, and that the pit may have served as its foundation trench.
