Stratum:   Inclusions: Ceramics (10%), pebbles (subrounded, fine-medium, 15%), shell and bone (5%)
Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the S. The soil color is light greyish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   Context 90 was a pedestal of unexcavated soil in Unit II Room 6 adjacent to and W of NB 864 Pit 10 and overlying the grave associated with Context 71 (deposit) and Context 72 (skeleton), Grave 2014-02. Following a cleaning of the exposed surface (Context 89), we began to excavate this pedestal stratigraphically in order to locate and define the cut of Grave 2014-02.
After removing a few centimeters with handpicks, we came down on a harder, whiter layer with many flat lying sherds, particularly at the eastern edge. At the W, and especially at the NW, the soil was softer and darker, and contained large fragments of human(?) bone. We therefore closed Context 90 in order to explore these areas separately. The surface represented by the flat-lying sherds is so far unexcavated, but the softer soil at the NW was opened as Context 95. We believe that Context 95 is the fill of the cut of Grave 2014-02 and so is the same deposit as Context 71.
We believe that Context 90 may be the same as NB 864 B62, representing the Floor 6 of the previous excavations of this room. The surface revealed below (unexcavated) seems likely to us to be the same as their Floor 7, left unexcavated. Floor 6 is dated by the excavators based on pottery to the mid-13th c. Our date is somewhat later.
